Carrie Underwood, a former “American Idol” contestant and contemporary country music artist, has been added to next season’s judges panel. Underwood was the winner of the competition in 2005 and will be taking the place of Katy Perry for season 25.
Underwood will join Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as judges, with Ryan Seacrest returning as host. This will be Underwood's return to "American Idol" after being a guest mentor. Good Morning America took to its Instagram account to make the announcement and expressed enthusiasm welcoming Underwood.
Carrie Underwood is a famous country singer and television personality. She noted that “American Idol” was a significant turning point in her career to gain experience and kick start her career.
"I learned a lot, I learned an insane amount," Underwood said (via Must Watch Show in May 2022). "And so much of that is still applied today, it still holds true to what I do now. It was star boot camp and I was trying to soak in as much as I possibly could and, obviously, it launched my career."
Underwood's new role comes as the show says goodbye to Perry. Perry shared her own experiences and hopes for a genuine successor.
"I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show," Perry told (E! News in April). "I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything."
Alongside her career, Underwood manages family life as the mother of two young sons, Isaiah and Jacob, with her retired NHL player husband, Mike Fisher.
