The trade season is filled with rumors, and the latest is the news of James van Riemsdyk's potential move to the Minnesota Wild.
TSN's Darren Dreger tweeted that several teams are keeping an eye on the Philadelphia Flyers veteran.
"Perusing the lists of players in play. With Meier trade, JVR slides into a “must watch” spot. More than a few teams now circling the Flyers veteran."
NHL Twitter took note of the information and ran with it:
"Do you get the sense that Guerin is actually trying to get the parts to work to bring in Boeser, or is that something that just is not possible even if the Wild could bring in a 3rd team to retain?" one user tweeted.
Another fan added: "Feels like the best solution is for the Wild to call up Beckman/Walker to play wing with Boldy to get that line going. Cement it and leave it alone for the rest of the season see what you get with it. Wild has too many bottom 6 players at the moment. Should look to move one out."
Why is James van Riemsdyk being traded?
The Philadelphia Flyers have had a disappointing season, finishing second last in their division. The trade will assist the Flyers in meeting their high salary demand of $7 million per season.
Furthermore, James van Riemsdyk, who has appeared in 919 games, has not been at his best recently. He has played over 40 games this season and has nine goals and 14 assists, which is a poor return for an experienced player.
As a result, it makes sense for the Flyers to trade him for someone else with the long-term in mind.
Why are Minnesota Wild interested in James van Riemsdyk?
In the NHL, the Minnesota Wild have played well enough to move into second place in the Western Conference Central Division with 72 points, but they have struggled offensively, scoring fewer than 170 goals in 60 games. The team has looked to Kirill Kaprizov, who has 30 goals this season, for scoring help.
The addition of James van Riemsdyk would provide the Wild with experience. It will be interesting to see if the move materializes before Minnesota Wild's game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
