NHL fans are surprised to hear that Macklin Celebrini has been placed on injured reserve by the San Jose Sharks. The team confirmed that the 2024 No. 1 draft pick missed practice due to a lower-body injury. Coach Ryan Warsofsky said the forward is still being evaluated. Celebrini will be out for at least seven days before he can return.

In response, the Sharks called up defenseman Jack Thompson. Fans reacted to the news on X.

"Omfg the sharks and blue jackets are the most cursed teams in the NHL," one fan tweeted.
"Ouch," another fan tweeted.
"He's 18. A boy playing a hard, physical game with men. He'll get stronger," a fan tweeted.
"BRO AINT NOW WAY HE JUST PLAYED HIS FIRST GAME 2 NIGHTS AGO AND HES ALREADY INJURED," a fan tweeted.

The Sharks had high hopes for Celebrini this season. Known for his speed and playmaking, he was a big part of the team’s rebuilding efforts. Now, fans are waiting for updates, hoping his injury is not serious.

"Probably the same injury that caused him to leave the preseason game against Utah," a fan tweeted.
"I swear every rookie never makes it a full season without being injured," one fan tweeted.
"Thats what happens when you have little boys who are scrawny as fu*k playing again MEN," a fan tweeted.
"Idk what the sharks did to piss off the hockey gods but jfc to have this much bad luck already and the season just started," a fan tweeted.

More details about Macklin Celebrini's lower-body injury

Macklin Celebrini was being checked for a lower-body injury. He missed practice on Friday. Coach Ryan Warsofsky said earlier that he did not know if Celebrini would play against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

Celebrini has been dealing with this injury since training camp and the preseason.

Celebrini had a strong NHL debut on Thursday. He scored a goal and had an assist in the Sharks’ 5-4 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues. His goal came just 7:01 into the game. This made it the second-fastest goal by a No. 1 pick in his first game, only behind Mario Lemieux.

Celebrini became the sixth-youngest player to score in his NHL debut. He assisted Tyler Toffoli later in the first period.
