Florida Panthers alternate captain Matthew Tkachuk has been enjoying himself since first raising the Stanley Cup on Monday night. After the team's Game 7 win at home, Tkachuk and the Panthers began their celebrations, taking turns hoisting the cup on their home ice. Of course, in the weeks to come players will have their chance to spend time with the cup.
Some, such as Aleksander Barkov, may choose to take it on vacation to visit extended family, while others may choose to celebrate with rounds of drinks at the bar. In the case of Matthew Tkachuk, the winger kicked off the celebrations by taking the Stanley Cup for a dip in the Atlantic Ocean.
As fans cheered him on, Tkachuk handed off his WWE championship belt before running into the ocean, jumping into a wave with the Cup in hand. After briefly going underwater, Tkachuk re-emerged, hoisting the cup over his head and kissing it as fans cheered him on from the beach.
Once the footage began to circulate online, fans were quick to share their reactions on Twitter/X:
"This is the most Florida man video I’ve ever see" - One wrote
"That cup has seen more places than most lol" - Another added
Others joked about how the salt from the ocean may damage the cup:
"Better hope that cup is stainless steel" - One joked
"Nothing like a lil salt rust!" - Another added
"And the guy responsible for keeping that thing shiny and clean is probably muttering a few choice curse words while watching this. But hey - they’ve earned the right to have a little fun, don’t you think?! lol!" - One wrote
Others joked about the situation, pointing out that this isn't the first time the cup has been in water:
"I mean Jeff Carter already had it in Sea Isle City, NJ so its seen the Atlantic" - One wrote
"Eh it’s been wet before. Took a dive off the deep end of Lemieux’s pool in the 90’s lol. Congrats FLA. thank you for not letting McDavid have the Cup" - Another added
