What makes Moritz Seider's signing special for the Detroit Red Wings

Moritz Seider is a 6'3", 205-pound defenseman, drafted sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 2019. In the 2023-24 NHL season, he played all 82 games, leading the team in hits (211), blocks (212), and average ice time (22:22). He also had nine goals, 33 assists, and 42 points.

Seider won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie in 2021-22, posting 50 points that season. He also led all rookie defensemen in assists, points, and ice time.

Before joining the NHL, he played for Rögle BK in Sweden, earning Defenseman of the Year honors. Seider has also represented Germany in several international tournaments, winning a silver medal at the 2023 World Championship and earning Best Defenseman at the 2021 World Championship.

In his career, Seider has 134 points in 246 NHL games, making him the top defenseman from his draft class. So considering the Red Wing's future on the blue line, Seider has proved more than reliable. He can be a major player in helping the Wings become a contender in the NHL.
