The reports have now been confirmed, as Arthur Staple of The Athletic states that Housley will be joining Laviolette's coaching staff as an assistant coach for the Rangers.
Phil Housley previously served as an assistant coach for the Nashville Predators before joining the New York Rangers. He later became the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres but was let go after two seasons with a disappointing record. Housley then joined the Arizona Coyotes as an assistant coach, specializing in defense and power play strategies. His time with the Coyotes concluded after the 2021-22 season.
