Toronto Star columnist Dave Feschuk warned the Toronto Maple Leafs about coach Craig Berube amid the ongoing three-game losing streak. The Maple Leafs slumped to a 4-1 defeat against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Feschuk, speaking on the podcast First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo, said that the hockey community had not yet seen the “angry” and “vengeful” Berube.

“Like we know Berube has that gear. I mean, the way he threw his stars under the bus at the end of his tenure with the Blues,” the analyst said.
“We're not trying hard. We know he can go there if he needs to go there, and he got but you can't do that every night. He certainly can't do it on Tuesday night in January, when you know it's all about April.”

Feschuk added that it would be difficult for Berube to make the final call on how to get better performances out of his players.

“We haven't seen the angry Craig Berube. We haven't seen the vengeful Craig Berube, necessarily … And you know it could come but I think it's very difficult for Craig Berube to, you know, know when to push that button,” he said.

This was the first time in the season the Leafs have lost three games in a row in regulation time. They were bested 6-3 by the Carolina Hurricanes on the road on Thursday and were shutout 3-0 at home by the Vancouver Canucks.

Dave Feschuk says Maple Leafs still look like strong playoff contenders

Despite the ongoing slump, Dave Feschuk believes the Maple Leafs are a strong contender to go deep in the playoffs.

“I think the Leafs have gotten there," Feschuk said. "They've had they've had moments this season. They've looked like a different team. We've had very esteemed critics of hockey talk about how they look different. They look into more playoff-worthy.
"That's not the case right now, in the midst of this losing streak, but we've certainly seen glimpses of a team that can play a playoff style. Berube's got to hope they can flip that switch on April and and turn it on."

The Leafs will next face the New Jersey Devils on Thursday at home where they'll hope to end their string of losses.
