NHL analyst Craig Button shared his thoughts about Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkosvsky's recent slump in performance.
The 20-year-old forward has faced a slump in performance this season. His current numbers don't reflect the performance expected from a player who finished last season with 20 goals.
Since being drafted first overall by the Montreal Canadiens, Juraj Slafkovsky has been striving for consistency in the NHL. On TSN's That's Hockey, Craig Button expressed strong confidence in Slafkovsky's potential:
"I think he can. He's big, he's powerful, he's strong, he's assertive. He wants to play where it's hard, and you know where the rewards come is in those areas.
"If it was easy to get the rewards, everybody would do it. So Juraj is more than willing to get in there and do that, what I call the heavy lifting and and really dig in," Button added.
Button highlighted the importance of maintaining a natural flow in the game and not to be overthinking, which can hinder performance. He noted that while Slafkovsky has shown great efforts, he needs to find a balance to optimize his productivity on the ice.
"There's no question that he's still a young player, and there's no question in my mind that he will find the form, and the sooner he finds it, the better off it'll be for the Montreal Canadiens.
"But I see no reason for worry with Juraj Slafkovsky, because there's too many good things there in his game, including an abdominal Will to always be better," Button added.
Juraj Slafkovsky is inked to an eight-year, $60.8 million deal signed with the Canadiens on July 1 last year. He has accumulated 23 points through four goals and 19 assists in 40 games this season.
What's next for the Montreal Canadiens?
The Montreal Canadiens have played their best hockey recently, which has helped them win consistently and move up in the standings.
The club is coming off a 5-3 win over the Utah Hockey Club and has won four of its last five games. During that stretch, the Habs improved their record to 21-18-4, totaling 46 points and are sixth in the Atlantic Division.
This surge in performance has placed the Habs only two points behind the second wild card spot in the East. The Montreal Canadiens will hope to remain consistent when they face off the Dallas Stars on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
