According to NHL analyst Marty Biron, the New York Rangers' season is all but over. After losing four straight games and falling to last place in the Metropolitan Division with a 16-19-1 record, Biron believes there is no coming back for the struggling Rangers.

Appearing on TSN's Hockey show, Biron did not mince words when discussing New York's fading playoff hopes.

"They are done," Biron stated. "I was always thinking the last couple of weeks, they're gonna make a push. They're gonna make a push and they did have Igor Shesterkin, no Shesterkin, no playoffs."

Shesterkin has been one of the lone bright spots for the Rangers this season. But now the Rangers have moved Igor Shesterkin to injured reserve due to an upper-body injury on Tuesday. It's uncertain when Shesterkin picked up this injury.

Biron also mentioned the Rangers' offensive struggles as a major issue.

"Defensively they adjusted the way they played, but they can't score. So it has been a mess in New York and it's gonna continue to be a mess without just Shesterkin and they will not make the playoffs. So hot on the Rangers."

With the trade deadline approaching, Biron hinted that changes could be coming in New York. Trade rumors are swirling around forwards Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. Moving either would signal a shift toward rebuilding, further dashing any playoff dreams.

The Rangers will attempt to stop their slide on Thursday night as they host the Boston Bruins.

Rangers' Mika Zibanejad could move for 'Right Environment'

With New York’s disappointing season, veteran center Mika Zibanejad may be willing to waive his no-move clause for the right opportunity, as per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta.

"Citing a source close to the Rangers, Zibanejad would be open to waiving his NMC for the right environment.."Pagnotta wrote on Monday.
"It is unclear, however, if the Rangers and Zibanejad have discussed which teams he would accept a move to, but that conversation could come if Drury finds the right fit."

Zibanejad has a big cap hit at $8.5 million for four more seasons after this one, so finding a taker may be difficult. However, he's still a solid two-way center capable of scoring 25+ goals and 60+ points. If GM Chris Drury ultimately decides to move Zibanejad likely in exchange for futures to continue New York's rebuild.
