Pending free agent Patrick Kane may find himself on the move at the Trade Deadline

While the eyes of the NHL universe are focused on the upcoming trade deadline, the upcoming free agency period cannot be ignored. Hockey fans have been treated to an incredibly active prelude to the trade deadline as several notable stars have found themselves on the move.

Some of the most notable moves that have taken place already include Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders, Vladimir Tarasenko to the New York Rangers, Ryan O'Reilly to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils.

"Now that Timo Meier is a member of the @NJDevils, what are your predictions for the remainder of their season?" - NHL

A number of players have already been dealt, or are rumored to be on the move, and carry long-term, lucrative deals. However, some of the players that have been moved may be available again in unrestricted free agency.

David Pastrnak and Timo Meier are set to become free agents after their contracts at the end of the season, and they seem likely to re-sign with their current teams. Here is a deeper look at the top pending unrestricted free agents after this season.

Patrick Kane may be the hottest name in free agency

One of the top names on the trade market, Patrick Kane, is set to become an unrestricted free agent as his eight-year, $84 million contract is set to expire. Though his career appears to be trending down, he is still an effective goal scorer who should find himself near the top of many teams' lists.

"If Patrick Kane gets traded to the Rangers I will be a sad sad boy. He should just wait til free agency then sign with New York’s team, the Islanders. #NHL #isles #Blackhawks" - shane

After spending his entire NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks, it may be time for a new era for both Kane and the franchise.

Dylan Larkin could hit free agency in his prime

Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings are yet to come to terms on a new contract extension. While it may be difficult to lose their superstar for nothing, if they cannot reach an agreement before the trade deadline, the Red Wings may have no option but to trade the talented winger.

"My latest for @TFP , on the #Flyers staying patient with their prospects, what lies ahead at the Trade Deadline and chatter surrounding Dylan Larkin as a team target if he makes it to Free Agency. #fueledbyphilly" - Anthony Di Marco

While a trade may be difficult to process, the team may decide to cut bait if they are unable to sign him to a long-term extension. If he were to remain with the club throughout the season and hit free agency, teams would be lining up to sign the 26-year-old, including the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Vladimir Tarasenko should have plenty of suitors

Though he is getting older and has struggled with injuries in recent years, Vladimir Tarasenko is expected to be one of the top forwards during the 2023 free agency period. The star forward is coming off of an eight-year, $60 million deal he signed with the St. Louis Blues.

"Damn, 2023 Free Agency came out early. Vladimir Tarasenko, YOU are a Philadelphia Flyer" - @PotatoCam69

The 31-year-old from Yaroslavl, Russia, has enjoyed a productive NHL career, scoring 264 goals and 293 assists through 653 games. Prior to being dealt to the New York Rangers, Tarasenko spent his entire NHL career with the St. Louis Blues.
