NHL insider elaborates on Barclay Goodrow's messy departure from Rangers

NHL insider Larry Brooks opened up about the messy departure of forward Barclay Goodrow from the New York Rangers. Goodrow was placed on waivers by the Rangers in June and was subsequently claimed by the San Jose Sharks.

According to Brooks, Goodrow had the Sharks on his no-trade clause, but the forward has no say on where he goes on waivers.

"We’re told that Goodrow’s 15-trade list included teams in less-than-desirable locations and those who are not contenders. San Jose would fit into that last category. But the 31-year-old’s feelings did not enter into this... We’ve been told by several folks that Goodrow is not happy about how this went down," Brooks wrote in his NY Post article.

Goodrow has yet to comment on being claimed by the Sharks and whether or not he will is to be seen. But the forward is reportedly unhappy with the move.\

Goodrow signed with the Sharks as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and spent his first six NHL seasons with the organization before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The forward won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning before signing a six-year, $21,850,000 contract with the Rangers in 2021.

Last year with the Rangers, Goodrow recorded just four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 80 games. But, in the playoffs, he added six goals and two assists for eight points in 16 playoff games.

Sharks make another move after claiming Barclay Goodrow

After San Jose claimed Barclay Goodrow off waivers, the Sharks also acquired forward Ty Dellandrea from the Dallas Stars. In exchange, San Jose gave up their 2025 fourth-round pick.

Dellandrea was drafted 13th overall by the Stars in the 2018 NHL draft. He has appeared in 151 NHL games, recording 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points. In the Stars 2024 playoff run, he appeared in six games and recorded one goal.
