It's still early in the hockey season, but Boston Bruins player Trent Frederic is drawing interest already. The Bruins are off to a slightly disappointing 6-6-1 start and are in fourth in the Atlantic Division, but they're still a long way away from becoming sellers at this year's deadline.
As per NHL Insider Kevin Weekes:
"In speaking to sources, several teams are interested in pending UFA (after this season) @NHLBruins Frederic. With his size, speed, toughness, character and skill - he’s drawing attention in the marketplace."
The season started out very poorly for Boston, but it has rebounded. The team could turn things around and contend once more this year. If not, and maybe either way, the Bruins could get something back for Frederic.
Frederic has had an up-and-down career since being drafted by the Bruins in 2016. He has 97 points since then, though last season was his best as a pro.
However, that growth hasn't continued. He has played 13 games this season, but he has only one goal and two assists. Scouts believe the talent is there, which is why there's reported interest in his services already.
The NHL Trade Deadline is not until March, but if things don't continue to improve in Boston, Frederic could be an early domino to fall.
Boston Bruins star praises Trent Frederic's penalty
Seattle Kraken defenseman Adam Larsson went after Boston Bruins star Matthew Poitras with an unexpected elbow on Sunday, and Trent Frederic retaliated by fighting. He went after Larsson and soon netted a two-minute penalty.
Despite that, teammate Charlie Coyle loved seeing the fight in Frederic. He said, via Mass Live:
“That’s an easy kill for us. We have no problem doing that with him sticking up for Potsy in that way. It just shows what we have in here and how close we are. We’re happy to kill off that little two-minute penalty.”
The team was able to kill the penalty and prevent Frederic's actions from costing it on the ice. Frederic himself did not comment on the incident after the game.
