The New York Rangers announced on Sunday afternoon that they have acquired forward Tyler Motte from the Ottawa Senators. In exchange, the Senators received Julien Gauthier and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

The 27-year-old winger makes his return to the Big Apple following his first stint in New York during the 2021-22 season.

Earlier in the day, Bruce Garrioch reported that Tyler Motte will sit out of the Senators' game vs the St. Louis Blues for trade-related reasons. Motte arrived at the rink but was told to go home.

Tyler Motte has played in 38 games for the Ottawa Senators this season, recording three goals and six assists. He is a very physical player who likes to throw his weight around and sacrifice his body for the team.

He ranks fourth in hits per-60 (10.27), is tied for sixth in blocked shots (43), and is fourth in shorthanded time-on-ice per game (2.43). The Michigan native is a pending unrestricted free agent who is making $1.35 million this season.

Motte has played 307 NHL games in his career with five different teams. He has had stints with the Senators, Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Chicago Blackhawks. The 27-year old has recorded 38 goals and 33 assists in eight-plus NHL seasons.

Motte's best season came with the Canucks during the 2018-19 campaign, where he recorded nine goals and seven assists in 74 games.

The New York Rangers recently completed a blockbuster trade on February 9, when they acquired Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola from the St. Louis Blues. As part of the deal, they sent winger Sammy Blais, defenseman Hunter Skinner, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick back to the Blues.

The Rangers' offense looks menacing with the addition of Tarasenko. He fits in really well with Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trochek. Tarasenko has developed good chemistry with his new linemates. He has recorded two goals and an assist in five games with the Rangers.

The New York Rangers are third in the Metropolitan Division with a 33-14-9 record. With the addition of Tyler Motte, the team will look to compete for the top spot in the league and make a deep run in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Rangers will host the Winnipeg Jets tomorrow at Madison Square Garden. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm/ET
