The New York Rangers are looking to shake up their roster after back-to-back losses with the latest being a 6-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. After the defeat, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman took to X, writing:
"In the aftermath of their 6-2 loss in Edmonton on Saturday, the Rangers have made it very clear they are interested in making moves and shaking up their roster. Among the names indicated are Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba, although other options will be considered."
Jacob Trouba is in the sixth year of a seven-year $56 million deal. However, the Rangers captain does have a modified no-trade clause, so he can block a trade to 15 teams.
Chris Kreider, meanwhile, is in the fifth year of his seven-year $45.5 million deal. He also has a 15-team no-trade clause.
Rangers coach calls out team after disappointing loss
After the Rangers blowout loss to the Oilers on Saturday, coach Peter Laviolette was frustrated with his team's effort.
“It was different tonight, it seemed like our heads were in it, but our game didn’t follow,” Laviolette said, via NHL.com. “The other night we just seemed to be flat, but I thought tonight, their rush, we didn’t handle the rush and the D-zone coverage, I don’t think we handled it well.
"We were pushed back on our heels, and you can’t win hockey games that way. We have to be cleaner and better and more detailed with teams coming into our end.”
Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck said the team has to have a sense of urgency to turn their season around.
“We’re leaving our goalies out to dry, in the first period especially,” Trocheck said. “And we have to come out with a lot more urgency and we have to dig deep here and look at ourselves in the mirror before the next game.”
The Rangers (12-6-1) will host the St. Louis Blues on November 25.
