The Chicago Blackhawks won 4-3 in an overtime thriller against the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night. Playing at the United Center in Chicago, the Blackhawks' defenseman Caleb Jones scored the winner in OT to give the home side a much-needed victory after suffering two successive losses in the NHL.
Both teams have had a disappointing campaign and are not really playing for much this season other than a better chance at top picks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Fans on Twitter were thrilled with the Chicago Blackhawks' comeback win and were quick to post their reactions. Here are a few of them:
Caleb Jones scores for the Chicago Blackhawks in OT win
The Arizona Coyotes had a dominant showing early on in the first period with goals from Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz. Seth Jones brought one back for the Chicago Blackhawks just minutes after Schmaltz's goal, making it 2-1.
The only goal in the second period came from Andres Athanasiou when he got the puck after a tussle with the Coyotes' defenders. The Blackhawks thought they had scored another goal and taken the lead for the first time in the match, but it was waved off due to goaltender interference.
Colin Blackwell eventually put the Blackhawks ahead late in the third period when Athanasiou exhibited immense dribbling skills to make it in front of the goal, only to have his shot deflected by the goalie. The loose puck fell to Blackwell, who squared it into the back of the net.
The Coyotes responded with a Nick Bjugstad goal with almost two minutes left on the clock when Keller set him up for a point-blank shot. At the end of the third period, the score read 3-3.
However, Chicago's Caleb Jones was the hero for the Blackhawks as he scored 3:37 minutes into overtime, securing his team a 4-3 comeback win.
Jaxson Stauber made 24 saves on the night and became the first goalie in Blackhawks history to start his career with three consecutive wins.
The next match for the Chicago Blackhawks is against the Winnipeg Jets on February 11. The Jets have won all three of their previous meetings against the Blackhawks with scores of 4-0, 7-2 and 3-1. Saturday's matchup at the MTS Center will be the final time these two teams play against each other in the 2022-23 NHL season.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes will take on the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center on Saturday night.
