Following a disappointing 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov didn't mince words about his team's ongoing struggles.

The defeat marked the Bruins' seventh loss in their last ten games, leaving them sitting third-last in the Atlantic Division with a 23-20-6 record.

Despite Morgan Geekie giving Boston an early lead in the first period, the Devils responded with an overwhelming four-goal barrage in the second period, followed by another tally in the third. The loss highlighted deeper issues that Zadorov addressed in his post-game comments.

"I mean, yeah, we were flat. We were not competing we were losing battles.” Zadorov stated. “Yeah, like, Don't overwork us. I mean, we're gonna, just gonna figure out, you know, like, we're not the skillest team in the league. We're not gonna win on the skill – we gotta win on the will,"

Zadorov's candid assessment suggests the team needs to refocus on their fundamentals and work ethic to turn their season around.

"When it rains, it pours. we're not on our game. Everything goes against us, so I think we're just gonna be more patient, be more sharp and to win some battles as well," he added.

Dawson Mercer (two goals), Nico Hischier, Dougie Hamilton and Stefan Noesen scored for the Devils. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom's night ended early due to an undisclosed injury in the second period, but Jake Allen stepped up and stopped all 16 shots in relief.

Jeremy Swayman allowed four goals on 29 shots before being replaced. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 5 in relief.

Morgan Geekie on Boston Bruins 5-1 loss to the Devils

Boston Bruins' center Morgan Geekie, who scored the team's only goal, voiced his frustration with the team's ongoing struggles and the urgency needed to turn things around.

“We’re trying to find an answer in here and what we’re doing’s not good enough,” Morgan Geekie. “We know it. It’s embarrassing, frankly, just the way we’re letting these games slip away from us and there’s not too many of these left.We know the position we’re in and what it’s going to take to climb of out of it."

Looking ahead, Geekie hopes the Boston Bruins can rebound in their next matchup against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday at TD Garden.
