Fans reacted as the NHL announced the New York Rangers Quarter-Century teams, featuring the franchise's top players from 2000-2024. The First Team forwards are Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad. On defense, the First Team features Adam Fox and Ryan McDonagh. In goal is Henrik Lundqvist.

The Second Team forwards are Jaromir Jagr, Derek Stepan and Mats Zuccarello. The defensemen are Dan Girardi and Marc Staal with Igor Shesterkin in net.

Many fans expressed surprise and criticism that former Rangers star Rick Nash did not make either team.

"No Rick Nash is crazy," one fan tweeted.
“I think maybe Rick Nash belongs on this list. What about Gaborik? There’s no real arguing with the Defense and Goaltending, but the forward group is hard,” another fan wrote.

Here are a few more fan reactions:

"I would've had Jagr over Zibanejad on the 1st team but I guess this is strictly by position. Very good job," one fan wrote.
"I’d have Callahan somewhere on this list. He definitely played more of an all around game than Mika ever has," another fan wrote.
"I may take hayes or mika at c or stratka or Nedved actually. Jagr was a beast still hard not to take him over bread," a user commented.
"Fthisnus what I had, taking into account longevity and production. Jagr gets in because what he did was historic and literally brought the franchise to respectability," another user wrote.

Overall, the Quarter-Century Team selections sparked passionate debate among the Rangers faithful. The fan vote for the NHL All Quarter-Century Team begins in February.

Next steps for the Quarter-Century teams

Following the announcement of the New York Rangers' Quarter-Century teams, the NHL will unveil the Quarter-Century teams for other franchises.

Up next is a league-wide fan vote running from February 12-26 to determine the NHL's overall Quarter-Century Team. Fans will vote online to select the top 25 players out of the pool of players named to each franchise's Quarter-Century squad.

Only those players previously named to their team's First Quarter-Century Team are eligible for the fan vote. The 25 players selected by fans will comprise the NHL Quarter-Century Team presented by SAP.

The results of the fan vote will be announced at a later date. NHL Productions will also produce four debate-style shows in March focusing on the top players and highlights from the last 25 years.
