The NHL's official X (formerly Twitter) account posted on Saturday asking if the New Jersey Devils' Jack Hughes will score 100 points for the first time this season. They project him to reach 103 points in 2024-25.
Last season, Jack Hughes ranked 13th in points per game (1.19, with 74 points in 62 games) and fourth in shots per game (4.42). Despite injuries, he led the Devils in power-play points with 31, tying for 23rd in the league.
After the NHL’s post, fans began reacting to it on X.
"Tough question, considering he can't shake that injury bug," one fan said.
"Not with Palat, Mercer, Tatar in your top 6," another fan commented.
"He’ll have more than mcdavid for sure. New era of hockey coming up," one X user said.
One fan is optimistic about Hughes' chances if he stays healthy.
"Yes. If his shoulder holds up, and it should. If it doesn't, Jack's career will be a short one," one fan tweeted.
However, a couple of fans don't see him reaching the century.
"Not just because I'm a Rangers fan but I will say under. I honestly think he will get about 90 points. When making comments like this I try hard not to be biased," a fan commented.
"Next year, not this one. This summer has been about recovering that shoulder. Next year he explodes," a fan commented.
Hughes is a top fantasy player and should be a high pick in keeper and dynasty leagues.
Jack Hughes set for training camp return as Devils revamp team for Stanley Cup push
This offseason, the New Jersey Devils have made several key changes to strengthen their team. The Devils missed the playoffs last year for the 10th time in 12 seasons.
To address this, they hired Sheldon Keefe as head coach, replacing Lindy Ruff. Keefe, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, plans to build a winning process to achieve their Stanley Cup goal.
"Our vision is to win the Stanley Cup and that's very clear," Keefe said (via NHL.com).
Jack Hughes, recovering from shoulder surgery, is expected to join the team at training camp fully fit.
The Devils improved their defense by adding Brett Pesce and Brenden Dillon. Jacob Markstrom, coming from the Calgary Flames, will strengthen the goaltending. They also signed forwards Stefan Noesen, Tomas Tatar, and Paul Cotter to add depth.
The Devils' season starts with back-to-back games against the Buffalo Sabres in Prague as part of the NHL Global Series.
