Lukas Dostal had an impressive night, making 45 saves for Anaheim. Troy Terry tied the game with just 13 seconds left in regulation before the loss left the Ducks with a 2-1-1 record.
NHL fans were quick to react to the game on X/Twitter:
"Ok, now trade Georgiev , useless goalie...," one fan said.
"Georgiev carried you fools," another fan commented.
"He’ll ya we finally get a win letsss gooooooooooo love it love it," one fan added.
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
"Hat tip to Lukas Dostal, but if this team wants to go deep this year they need to get their goaltending issues fixed. Maybe Georgiev can find his game again but he really hasn't looked good since last year, and he's not even a serviceable goalie at the moment. #GoAvsGo," one fan said.
"Exactly 0 of the Ducks goals tonight should have been allowed. There were 2 missed stoppages and a hold on Cale's stick that wasn't called...and people still want to blame Georgie. Fake fans," another fan commented.
"Finally. Now we can start the season," a fan said.
Anaheim took an early lead but Colorado won in OT
The Ducks took the lead early when Leo Carlsson poked the puck past Alexander Georgiev, making it 1-0. They went up 2-0 when Ryan Strome scored on a rebound from Brian Dumoulin’s shot. Colorado struggled at first, with Mason McTavish hitting the crossbar on a close chance.
The Avalanche made a strong comeback, scoring early in both the second and third periods. Casey Mittlestadt scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1. Ross Colton tied the game with a power-play goal. He later put Colorado ahead 3-2 with a one-timer from the slot.
Just when it seemed the Avalanche would win, Troy Terry scored to tie the game. This was his third goal of the season. In overtime, Dostal made a great save against Mikko Rantanen. However, Nathan MacKinnon scored the game-winner for Colorado.
This win is important for Colorado as it tries to gain momentum for the season. The Avalanche take on the San Jose Sharks next on Sunday while the Anaheim Ducks host the Los Angeles Kings the same day.
