NY Rangers HC Peter Laviolette made his feelings known about defenseman K'Andre Miller's step-up in offense in the New York Rangers' 6-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
Miller had a goal and an assist, breaking out of his slow start to the season. Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette was pleased with Miller's performance, especially his increased contribution in the offensive zone.
"When your team starts to win, you start to feel confident. You start to contribute offensively, not that you need to, but when you do start to, I think players they start to feel little bit better," Laviolette said.
He also praised Miller's overall game.
“Yes, it was good that he generated some offense, but I thought he was really good in the defensive zone tonight. I thought he was a horse out there. Like he was heavy, and he used his skating, he broke pucks out with speed and then added to the rush through the neutral zone.
"I thought he played a real strong game for us,” he added.
Along with Miller, the Rangers got goals from Adam Fox, Reilly Smith, Filip Chytil, Adam Edstrom and Braden Schneider in the win. Igor Shesterkin made 33 saves while the lone Flyers goal came from Owen Tippett as Samuel Ersson made 31 stops.
K'Andre Miller discusses his improved performance
K'Andre Miller has started to find his offensive game after a slow start to the season.
"It's unfortunately been missing for a while. Going in the right direction, so it's been good," Miller said when asked about his contributions in the 6-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
In 41 games this season, K'Andre Miller has just 3 goals and 11 points with a -3 plus/minus rating.
"I think everybody in this room knew what we were capable of, how good of a team we are. I think it was just a matter of believing, honestly. I think these last couple of games we've shown a lot of good things and how good of a team we can be when we're on," Miller commented after the game.
The victory improved the Rangers' record to 24-20-4 on the season. They also won four out of the five last games.
The Rangers will next face the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
