NHL fans are speculating about Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine's injury. Laine was injured during a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Laine collided with Cédric Paré and Jacob Quillan in a knee-on-knee hit. The former second-overall pick grabbed his knee in pain and was helped off the ice.

Following the game, Laine left the arena with a knee brace on and reportedly used crutches at practice on Monday.

"I hope the boys really support him through this," a fan wrote.
"Need immediate update on the details. All this speculation is killing me. Obviously it’s bad. But how bad," a fan added.

Laine was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets and was expected to be a key part of Montreal's offense.

"Don’t like them crutches ffs kill me," a fan added.
"I'm so happy to see him even if we're still in the unknown. We love you Patty!," a fan wrote.

Canadiens fans are hoping Laine's injury is not serious but being on crutches is not a good sign.

"Yeah, it’s not looking good," a fan added.
"It’s just nice to see Patrik Laine watching his Habs teammates at practice, even if he is on crutches," a fan wrote.

Laine dealt with injuries last season with Columbus as he only skated in 18 games and recorded six goals and three assists for nine points.

Montreal Canadiens coach took aim at the NHL after Patrik Laine injury

After Patrik Laine suffered the injury, Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis opened up on his thoughts about it.

St. Louis fired a shot at the NHL as he said that the league moves on quickly and Montreal needs to find a way to replace him.

"I said it before; the League doesn't care, it just keeps going, " St. Louis said. "For us we have to keep going & that's what we're going to do. We'll see is this short-term? Long-term? We don't know. He's going to be evaluated and we'll keep going."

Laine was projected to be a top-six forward for Montreal as he is looking to revive his career. However, the forward is dealing with a knee injury and could likely be out for the foreseeable future.

Montreal will open its 2024-25 NHL season on October 9 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
