Former NHLer Clint Malarchuk played 11 seasons in the league. While Malarchuk did not originally have a reputation for violence, he shared one incident when his temper got the better of him.
During an appearance on the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast with Paul Bissonnette on Tuesday, Malarchuk reminisced about the time he had a serious knuckle fight with goaltender Troy Gamble.
“You gotta Google ‘Malarchuk versus Gamble,' Clint Malarchuk Google that. It was in the IHL. And Troy, I know him, and he's a great guy. And I hammered the sh*t out of him,” Malarchuk said.
“And he kept his mask on. I took it off. And he kept his blocker on. Oh. Yeah, I kept his blocker on. He's got, what, six or eight inches extension? I had some knots, but, oh, I killed him,” Malarchuk added.
After the scuffle, Malarchuk apologized to Gamble but mentioned that it was the goaltender who started the fight.
Clint Malarchuk shares bizarre story about an adventure with Dale Hunter while tipsy
Clint Malarchuk shared another story on "Spittin' Chiclets" about a wild adventure with Washington Capitals' legend Dale Hunter during a trip to Los Angeles.
As farm and ranch kids, the duo felt it would be amusing to take their teammates, who had probably never ridden horses, for a ride. When they arrived in Los Angeles and flew to Palm Springs, their luggage went missing, leaving them wearing their suits and ties.
“So no one's gonna go ride a horse in a suit and tie except Clint Malarchuk and Dale Hunter," Malarchuk said.
"We don't give a s*it. And we're on a golf resort and, you know, so we go down the road, we rent these horses, they gave us beer, you could buy beer there, saddlebags, pack the beer. And we go up in the mountains, and so we're drinking beer, and we're getting a little bit sh*t faced.”
Then, looking down from the ridge, they saw their teammates golfing. Malarchuk and Hunter then rode their horses down to the golf course, tearing up the fairways, pulling the pins, and jousting.
“And this guy's in a golf cart, it says ‘Golf Marshall.’ He's chasing us on his golf cart, and we're pretending to shoot at him,” he added.
Unaware of the damage they were causing, the duo continued their antics, with headbands and suit jackets tied to their saddles. When Malarchuk and Hunter went to return the horses, they found the police waiting for them. They didn't understand why the cops were there until they were told they faced criminal charges for the damage.
However, their then GM, David Poile, and their coach covered the damages, and they were not arrested.
