Late Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau’s wife Meredith has been showered with birthday wishes this week. Apart from a host of wishes on Meredith’s birthday, Blue Jackets defenseman Erik Gudbranson’s wife, Sarah, shared a special post on Instagram celebrating the occasion.
Sarah, who had posted two collages featuring happy memories of her and Meredith on Monday, shared another photo of the birthday girl sitting before a cake, ready to blow out the candles and birthday balloons in the background.
“Our bday girl,” the photo was captioned.
"Hbd QUEEN @meredithgaudreau ilysm," Sarah wrote in her earlier collage’s caption.
Sarah also tagged other wives and partners of Blue Jackets players. Those tagged in the post include Damon Severson’s partner Drey Severson, Boone Jenner's wife, Maggie, Sean Monahan's wife, Brittany and Zach Werenski's fiancée Odette Peters.
Erik and Johnny were close friends, both on and off the ice. Earlier in their careers, they played together for the Calgary Flames before reuniting in Columbus.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were riding bicycles in Salem, New Jersey, when they were hit by a car supposedly driven by a drunk driver on Aug. 29. The brothers were in town for their sister Katie’s wedding.
The Blue Jackets organized a candlelight vigil in September to honor the brothers’ memories. Many of Johnny’s teammates were present for the ceremony and spoke about their time with him.
“Our hearts are shattered in a million pieces, there’s no doubt about that. Johnny was an amazing teammate and an amazing friend. There’s something that I’ll miss very dearly,” Gudbranson said via The Athletic.
