One of the hottest trade rumors right now surrounds Evgeni Malkin. The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the league's worst teams right now and may need to start selling off assets to jumpstart a rebuild soon. That could begin with the 38-year-old Malkin who has never played for another team.
Malkin has spent 19 seasons as a professional, and he's been with the Penguins the entire time. Their poor start this year, which includes an 11-12-4 record, might see Malkin elsewhere soon.
One proposal sees the center heading to the Dallas Stars in a move that would give Dallas a key player in a position it can upgrade for the roster. NHL fans aren't sold on it, though.
"A high ask for an ancient washed player? This is laughable, I can see why no one f*****n pays attention to you," another said.
"Stankoven is as good as gone if that's what it takes to get Malkin. Dallas is cup favorite with that trade," one added.
"Malkin isn’t going to be a Star. They will add a defenseman, and a complementary playmaking forward," one said.
"Sorry to spoil your party but Geno has a full no movement clause and IS NOT LEAVING PITTSBURGH," another stated.
The proposal involved someone like Logan Stankoven, Wyatt Johnston or Thomas Harley to convince the Penguins to let go of their future Hall of Famer.
NHL addresses recent incident with Evgeni Malkin
In late November, Evgeni Malkin and Nikita Zadorov were involved in an incident during a contest between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. While sitting on the bench, Malkin poked Zadorov, who was on the ice, with his stick.
Zadorov turned and swung back, nailing a teammate beside Malkin. They were both penalized. The NHL provided a statement, via WTAE:
"Both have been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for unsportsmanlike conduct and slashing. Malkin was assessed a minor penalty for slashing, while Zadorov was assessed a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct."
It was the fourth time Malkin was fined in his 19-year NHL career.
