"Overpay" "There goes Jarnkrok": NHL fans react as Max Pacioretty signs one-year contract with Maple Leafs

Max Pacioretty signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, worth $1.5 million, including performance bonuses. NHL insider Frank Seravalli shared the details on X. Pacioretty's base salary is $873,770, with extra bonuses for playing 10 and 35 games. He will get $313,115 for reaching 10 games and another $313,115 for hitting 35 games.

Fans quickly reacted to Max Pacioretty's signing on X.

"Overpay + pay to remove Jarnkrok time," one fan said.
"There goes Jarnkrok," another said, suggesting concerns about Calle Järnkrok's role.
"This is the one i was waiting for - and this is great value paying for the player patches is, not the player he was leafs have plenty of cash to throw around, so the performance bonuses were always the tactic" a fan said.

Max Pacioretty has dealt with injuries of late that resulted in him playing only 47 games for the Washington Capitals last season. In those games, he scored four goals and 19 assists.

Some fans were worried about his health, while others thought he would add some much-needed offense.

"Surprised there is no incentive for playoff goals scored," a fan said.
"He could have really helped the Habs in their rebuild," another said.
"I think for what he can possibly bring this is a steal," a fan wrote.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Max Pacioretty, Steven Lorentz, extended Cade Webber

Max Pacioretty signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. Pacioretty, 35, attended training camp on a professional tryout. If he stays healthy, he could be an important player for Toronto.

Pacioretty was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2007. He has 668 points in 902 regular-season games so far. This includes 330 goals and 338 assists. He also has 50 points in 78 playoff games. He served as captain of the Canadiens from 2015 to 2018.

The Maple Leafs also signed Steven Lorentz and extended Cade Webber. Lorentz, a forward, received a one-year contract worth $775,000. He won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. Last season, he had three points in 38 games. Webber signed a two-year, two-way contract starting in the 2025-26 season. The AAV of his contract is $825,000.
