Former NHLer and analyst P.K. Subban reacted to New York Rangers fans booing their team during Monday's game at MSG.

The atmosphere in New York turned sour as Blueshirts fans appeared to be at their breaking point following the team's recent outings.

The Rangers suffered their second straight defeat after losing 2-1 to the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, who are at the bottom of the league, at Madison Square Garden.

The underwhelming performance led to audible boos from the crowd, where the Blueshirts have lost eight of 15 games this season. Reacting to the MSG crowd, Subban said:

"Tough night at MSG"

The New York Rangers are fourth in the Metro Division with 29 points after 27 games and have lost eight of their last 10 games.

Rangers HC Peter Laviolette on MSG fans booing

Peter Laviolette addressed the boos from the Madison Square Garden crowd, acknowledging fans' frustration with the team's performance.

He said:

"It's frustrating. I get it. Deservedly so. When your pace should be at a higher level and your execution should be at a higher level, I get it. It's frustration. The execution was off all night. Could be fatigue, could be mental, could be anything. Regardless, it's unacceptable. We've got to be better than that.
"You're not going to win hockey games if you can't execute. We haven't talked about that much, but tonight, execution was clearly won with the puck."

Tyler Bertuzzi opened the scoring for the Blackhawks at 8:10 of the first period. With less than a minute to go in the period, Will Cuylle tied it for the Blueshirts after scoring a short-handed goal.

Artemi Panarin, the leading scorer for the Blueshirts, reflected on the team's performance:

"It's not easy, but we try to stay together. All of us are in the same situation, we're in the same boat. We got to (climb out) of that hole together, too. In that situation, doesn't have any other option. Just hard work, be ready mentally, handle that and then use it like an opportunity for being better."

Taylor Hall scored at 6:16 of the second period, eventually sealing a 2-1 win for the Hawks, which snapped the Hawks's six-game losing streak. The Blueshirts next return to the ice against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
