Steven Lorentz said 15 years ago he'll one day play in the NHL. The player found the yearbook post that confirmed his childhood dreams and shared it with social media. He has been in the league for several seasons now, so his dream was fulfilled already.
However, he also noted as a young child that he wanted to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had yet to do that until 2024-25, when he made his debut for the team. He finally achieved exactly what he wanted to as a child.
The Leafs originally shared a post showing a young Lorentz in Maple Leafs gear, showcasing how Lorentz was always meant to be a Leaf. NHL fans gave their take on this.
"Congratulations and big goal setting works," one said.
"I coached against this guy in minor hockey. He never quits," another added.
"Congratulations! I’ll be showing this to my Grade 5-6 students today! Go Leafs Go!" one exclaimed.
"His smile was infectious, so happy to have him with the team. All the best for the season!" another added.
Lorentz played in the season-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens, recording over nine minutes of ice time and 14 shifts. He recorded one faceoff win during the game.
In the second game, which the Leafs won, Lorentz played 15 minutes and had a goal and an assist in a tremendous effort over the previously unbeaten New Jersey Devils.
Steven Lorentz's dad wants to see more from Maple Leafs star
Steven Lorentz owes his childhood fandom of the Toronto Maple Leafs to his proud father, who pushed him for more after a dominant display in the Leafs' win over New Jersey.
Via TSN, Lorentz said:
"I checked my phone. [My dad] just said, 'Are you going to top that on Saturday night?' I said, 'I don't know, man. We'll see.' Don't know if we're going to be doing this every single night, night in and night out for the whole season. But, you know, definitely I got my foot on the gas, and I'm feeling really good right now. So, I'm just hoping to keep this going"
The Leafs will play their home opener on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
