Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine’s fiancee Jordan Leigh shared how her therapist taught her a technique called "grounding" to deal with overwhelming thoughts. In an interview with family therapist and YouTuber Kati Morton on Wednesday, Jordan explained the methods that worked for her in dealing with circumstances beyond her control. She shared a clip of the interview on Instagram.

“How I deal with the ‘what ifs’ and worries I can’t control,” Jordan captioned.

She added that her therapist taught her grounding to deal with times when she finds herself struggling to deal with such circumstances.

“It’s kind of acknowledging all five of your senses and asking yourself ‘What do I smell right now?' "And ‘what do I hear right now?'" Jordan said.
“Practicing these grounding techniques and practicing bringing yourself back to the present and acknowledging that most of the things you think are going to happen in the future; they’re not even gonna happen.”

Laine had two assists on Tuesday as the Canadiens beat the St Louis Blues 3-2. On Sunday, Jordan shared a celebratory post on Instagram as her fiance scored the game-winning goal in the Habs' 5-4 overtime victory against the New York Rangers.

"That was a tough one," Laine said after the game, via NHL.com. "We were giving them a couple of freebies tonight, and we knew that if we just stayed with the way we were playing we would get the results at some point.”

Patrik Laine and Jordan Leigh’s mental health program

Patrik Laine checked in to the NHL’s players’ assistance program in January 2024 while playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He returned after undergoing six months of treatment.

He was traded to the Habs in the 2024-25 preseason but suffered a knee injury during an exhibition game which kept him off the roster until he made his debut on Dec. 3.

Laine's fiance Jordan Leigh models while pursuing a mental health counseling degree at NYU. The couple launched an online mental health initiative and community program called "From Us To You" in August.

Laine and Jordan posted a video on Instagram announcing the launch.

“A lot of you have reached out to us with your own personal mental health stories,” Laine said. “Even more of you have expressed the value that comes from speaking out. We wanted to do something to continue the conversation.”

The program’s Instagram bio reads, "A safe space to share, inspire, support, and grow together."
