Habs forward Patrik Laine scored his 400th NHL career points in the Montreal Canadiens' 5-3 win over the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday. Laine reached the milestone in his 495th game.
His fiancee Jordan Leigh took to Instagram story to share her excitement and pride. She reposted the Canadiens’s special poster acknowledging Laine’s achievement and captioning it:
“Proud of my love”, with a red heart emoji.
The game on the night opened with Josh Doan giving Utah the lead at 2:11 of the first period, capitalizing on a rebound from Clayton Keller during a power play. Montreal responded quickly, with Mike Matheson tying the game one minute later when he split the Utah defense and sent the puck through Karel Vejmelka’s legs for the equalizer.
Utah regained the lead late in the first period when Nick Bjugstad chipped the puck over Sam Montembeault. In the second period, Patrik Laine made it 2-2 for Montreal at 10:40, firing a one-timer off a setup from Alex Newhook.
Kirby Dach put the Canadiens ahead at 18:34, but Utah tied the game again early in the third period as Logan Cooley buried a rebound from Keller’s shot to make it 3-3.
However, Montreal quickly responded with Cole Caufield finishing a pass from Lane Hutson with a blocker-side shot to regain the lead at 4-3. Dach sealed the victory at 16:15, scoring his second goal of the game with a glove-side shot as his team won 5-3.
With the goal on the night, Patrik Laine became the sixth Canadiens player to reach 10 goals this season. It was, however, his first even-strength goal since joining the Canadiens, with the last nine coming from power plays.
Patrik Laine awarded Molson Trophy for December
Earlier this week, Patrik Laine was awarded the Molson Cup for December before the game against the Dallas Stars. His fiancee Jordan Leigh attended the ceremony at the Bell Centre and shared a clip of the moment on her Instagram story.
Laine earned the first star of the game four times in December, including on Dec. 3 against the Islanders, Ded. 9 against Anaheim, Dec. 17 against Buffalo, and Dec. 20 in Detroit.
He also received the third star on Dec. 5 against Nashville. Over 13 games in December, Laine scored 10 points (eight goals, two assists), leading the NHL with eight power-play goals during the month.
Laine made his Canadiens debut on Dec. 3, scoring his first goal with the team against the New York Islanders. He then scored his 11th career hat-trick on Dec. 7 against Buffalo, placing him third all-time among Finnish players for career NHL hat-tricks.
On Ded. 21 in Detroit, Laine became the first player in NHL history to score eight consecutive power-play goals for a team. He added the ninth consecutive power-play goal on Saturday against Dallas.
