Paul Bissonnette surprised his followers by suggesting that Connor McDavid should "come home" to the Toronto Maple Leafs. On X (formerly Twitter), Bissonnette shared a picture of a young Connor McDavid holding a Leafs jersey with the captain’s “C.” He tweeted:
"Can’t believe the Oilers wasted McJesus’ prime. Come home, Connor. It’s time to end the drought."
Bissonnette, a known Toronto Maple Leafs fan, often supports the team on his "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast. The Leafs have had the longest Stanley Cup drought in NHL history, having last won in the 1966–67 season. Bisonette's tweet touches on Toronto’s long Stanley Cup drought and the idea that Connor McDavid could help end it.
Last season, McDavid led the Oilers to Game 7 of Stanley Cup finals. However, they lost 2-1 to the Florida Panthers to fall narrowly short of his first Stanley Cup win.
The Leafs, meanwhile, have made it past the first round of the playoffs only once since 2004, losing in the second round. So, McDavid's presence and his offense could've helped them, as Biz suggested.
Connor McDavid remains a star for the Edmonton Oilers. He had two assists in their 4-3 overtime win against the Flyers on Tuesday. He helped with an assist to the game-tying and game-winning goals. Despite a slow start, McDavid has four assists, 10 shots and five hits in four games.
Bissonnette mocked Whitney after Connor McDavid’s Oilers lost their first three games
On Monday, Paul Bissonnette joked about Ryan Whitney after Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers started their 2024-25 NHL season with a 0-3 record. Bissonnette teased Whitney, an Oilers fan, tweeting:
"Oilers are broken again. Whit had the balls to ask me about Woll on the new podcast coming out Tuesday buddy worry about your own team this might get ugly."
It was in response to Whitney's comments on Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll being placed on injured reserve due to a lower body injury.
The Oilers lost their third straight game, 4-1, against the Calgary Flames. Their only goal was scored by Jeff Skinner, with the Oilers going 15-3 in goals.
However, on Tuesday, they secured their first win of the season in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers, with Leon Draisaitl scoring the game-winning goal. The Edmonton Oilers are now 1-3-0 and next face the Nashville Predators on Thursday at 6 p.m. MDT.
