The general manager and co-president of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, Chuck Fletcher, is relieved of his duties. The Flyers have made this official announcement directly through their Twitter account.
While it wasn't a surprising move by the flyers, as earlier today TFP’s David Pagnotta said that there's a lot of movement in Philly. It was suspected the Canadian professional ice hockey executive could be relieved of his GM duties soon.
At about 1 AM ET on Friday, TFP's Anthony Di Marco reported that the Philadelphia Flyers were making big changes to their front office. That general manager Chuck Fletcher is likely to be removed from his duties. And now since its official, people hope that some kind of change will take place in their performance.
A source within the organization told TFP that Daniel Brière, the club's Special Assistant to the GM, is reportedly being seriously considered to replace Fletcher. After their announcement, something similar happened when Daniel Brière, was named Interim General Manager.
Other members of management, including some of the club's senior advisers, may also be relieved of their responsibilities. This is a result of the team's restructuring, so Fletcher is not the only victim.
On December 3, 2018, Fletcher was named the ninth general manager in Flyers' history. He initially held the position of General Manager, but was later promoted to President, Hockey Operations and served as the club's Alternate Governor.
Anger over Fletcher's handling ahead of last week's trade deadline escalated over the past week, resulting in his dismissal this off-season. The decision to proceed has been made at this point.
Now it's expected that many new changes will take place within the team's operations. They're expected to start with some new strategies for the remainder of this NHL season.
Philadelphia Flyers' performance and defensemen Tony DeAngelo's recent controversy.
The Philadelphia Flyers have had a rough season and are now in last place in the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division with 59 points. They are attempting to maintain their postseason hopes despite losing eight of their previous 10 games.
They are currently 15 points behind the fourth-placed New York Rangers, so they must win every game moving forward. Only then will they have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
The NHL announced on Wednesday that the Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo has been suspended for two games for spearing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Corey Perry.
During Tuesday night's game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Lightning, Perry slashed DeAngelo at the end of the game. After the whistle, DeAngelo circled back to Perry and speared him in the groin, which incited a major scuffle around the Philadelphia defenseman.
