Ryan Whitney, a former NHL defenseman and host of Spittin’ Chiclets, shared his Super Bowl thoughts on X (formerly Twitter). Whitney made it clear that he's rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles advanced to Super Bowl 59 after beating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship. The Chiefs, meanwhile, beat the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship. The Super Bowl is set for Feb. 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
"I want the Eagles to lose in the Super Bowl even more than I wanted the Chiefs to lose that game," Whitney tweeted.
In a follow-up tweet, he wrote:
"Philly fans are scumbags. I can’t believe this. They’re so painful I’m rooting for the god damn Chiefs."
Whitney’s dislike for Philadelphia fans might come from his NHL days. As a Pittsburgh Penguin, he had several heated games against the Flyers. In December 2007, Whitney fought Flyers player Jeff Carter for which he received a misconduct. A year earlier, he clashed with Derian Hatcher, receiving an instigator penalty.
The Chiefs aim for their third straight Super Bowl win. Kendrick Lamar will perform at halftime, while Jon Batiste will sing the national anthem.
Previously Ryan Whitney openly called "I hate Philly"
In October 2024, Spittin' Chiclets host Ryan Whitney criticized Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov and Philadelphia fans.
Despite Michkov’s strong start to his rookie season, Whitney questioned his skating ability.
"You're talking about Michkov and me saying he's a bad skater as he scores a goal standing on the goal line," Whitney said on his podcast.
"I don't care, bring all the Philly hate, I hate Philly. I don't want two teams to do good – Toronto and Philly. These two teams I don't want to win ever."
Whitney admitted Michkov could be a great player, possibly scoring 90 points per season for 15 years. However, he added, that when he skates, it's not similar to elite skaters flying up the ice. He's got "a little bit of a choppy stride."
Whitney also addressed Philadelphia fans directly.
"Relax, Philly. It seems like you have a very special player on your hands. But I don't like you, and I never liked you. Philly trash till the day I die."
So, Ryan Whitney is clearly not a big fan of the Philadelphia crowd.
