Toronto Maple Leafs fans were amused by a moment involving forward William Nylander during a recent NHL goal horn quiz with TSN's BarDown.
When asked to identify a mystery goal horn after being given the clue "You hear this one the most," Nylander mistakenly guessed it was the Boston Bruins' horn.
His guess drew laughs from teammates Mitch Marner, John Tavares and Auston Matthews, who had all correctly identified the horn to be that of the Maple Leafs.
Nylander quickly realized his mistake and broke into laughter once the BarDown host revealed the right answer.
Fans on social media found the slip-up entertaining given the Maple Leafs' struggles against their archrival the Bruins in recent years. The Bruins eliminated the Leafs in the first round of the 2023-24 playoffs and went 4-0 against them during the regular season.
One amused fan referred to how dominant Boston has been over Toronto:
"Poor guy is traumatized lol."
Another fan wrote:
"Hahahahahha. I mean in recent memory, he's not wrong. He's a fun dude."
Here are some fan reactions:
"The Leafs unanimously getting Boston's right and most not even getting their OWN horn right is just incredible content. The Bruins own us it's so funny," one fan wrote on X.
"I’m glad he knows his team is a joke lol. Get that bag Willie. Losing has its paychecks too!" another fan commented.
"Even he was self aware lmfao, I love this guy," a user wrote.
"Nylander and Matthews seem like solid dudes. It’s a shame they play for the least likeable franchise in the league," another user wrote.
William Nylander talks about new Amazon docuseries
William Nylander shared his thoughts on Amazon's new docuseries "FACEOFF: Inside the NHL." The series offers an unprecedented look at NHL players during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with Nylander featured prominently in the first episode.
Despite his initial enthusiasm for participating, Nylander admitted to mixed feelings about watching the final product. The series captures the Maple Leafs' painful first-round playoff exit to the Boston Bruins in 2024, a moment Nylander found difficult to relive.
He jokingly confessed to stopping his viewing after scenes of him scoring.
"I stopped watching it after I scored and stuff,” Nylander said on Monday (as per HockeyNews).
The six-part series, produced by renowned filmmakers and NHL Productions, delves deep into the lives of top NHL stars during the playoffs. The first episode focuses on Nylander and David Pastrnak, exploring their friendship-turned-rivalry from their early days in Sweden to their current NHL careers.
