"Poor guy will have migraines dealing with those babies" - NHL fans react as Insider names Craig Berube the 32nd head coach for the Maple Leafs

Former Blues coach Craig Berube is set to become the next Toronto Maple Leafs bench boss, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reports.

The major news comes on the heels of another disappointing first-round exit by the Leafs. The poor showing led to the dismissal of Sheldon Keefe despite a two-year contract extension kicking in next season.

As the hockey world waits for a major announcement from Leafs management, fan reactions have begun pouring in. However, not all fans are optimistic about Craig Berube’s hiring.

This fan anticipates some headaches for Craig Berube:

Another fan doesn’t think a coaching change is the problem:

Meanwhile, this fan doesn’t believe the Maple Leafs will be getting very far this season:

But not all fan reactions are negative. Plenty of Leafs’ fans are excited about Craig Berube’s arrival and what he can do to turn the Leafs into champions. Here is a look at some of the most exciting comments:

"Cup champ, guys a winner, best option available, who wouldn’t want him?!?"

This fan feels Berube will set the tone early:

"Chief will set the tone right away. Something needed to change."

Here is a fan showing their excitement:

"Nice, excited to see what this guy can go with the team."

While there is no formal announcement regarding Craig Berube’s hiring, the announcement may happen as early as Tuesday next week. Fans will hold their breath as the Leafs name their new coach.

Craig Berube: The new “Chief” behind the Leafs' bench

Craig Berube played for the Maple Leafs during the 1991-1992 season. He arrived in Toronto as part of the Doug Gilmour deal that sent “Killer” from the Calgary Flames to Toronto.

While Craig Berube’s stint as a player was short-lived in Toronto, he’s now set to return as the team’s coach. As Frank Seravalli points out, Berube will occupy the following order as Leafs’ coach:

"41st in franchise history, 32nd in Leafs history – as the larger number includes Arenas and St. Pats."

Regardless of the actual number in history, Frank Seravalli makes a crucial point:

"Either way: Incredibly important gig for a 107-year old franchise."

Leafs’ management hopes Craig Berube is the answer to the Leafs’ 57-year Cup drought. Berube brings a 281-190-72 record in 543 NHL regular-season games.

Most importantly, Craig Berube boasts the 2019 Stanely Cup on his resume. As the Blues’ coach, he led a miraculous turnaround that saw the Blues go from last-overall in January 2019 to the playoffs and an impressive playoff run that culminated in a Cup.

Leafs’ fans hope Berube can transform the talented core of William Nylander, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner into a serious Cup contender.
