The Boston Bruins go on the road to play the New York Rangers in preseason action on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. It's Boston's third preseason game as the Bruins are off to a 1-1 start.

Boston forward Fabian Lysell, who was a first-round pick in 2021, is trying to make the roster. However, coach Jim Montgomery sent a clear message to the forward on what he needed to do to make the roster.

"He needs to do a little more than he’s done if he wants to make the Bruins," Montgomery said.

Ahead of the preseason game on Thursday, here's what the Bruins lineup could look like.

Predicted Bruins lineup

Forwards

  • Max Jones, Morgan Geekie and Fabian Lysell
  • Brett Harrison, Charlie Coyle and Justin Brazeau
  • Trent Frederic, John Beecher and Matthew Poitras
  • Riley Tufte, Marc McLaughlin and Vinni Lettieri

The Bruins will send some key players out but Brad Marchand, who had a full practice on Wednesday, won't be in action. Instead, Marchand will likely make his preseason debut at home.

Marchand had three surgeries in the offseason and has been rehabbing it but is ready to play again.

“I had three surgeries this summer,” Marchand said, via NBC. “So I didn’t do a whole lot of training until about two weeks ago. I’m just kinda getting back into it. The goal is to try to be ready for camp or if not shortly after. I’m getting back in the swing of things now. Gonna hit it all head on."

Defense

  • Hampus Lindholm, Brandon Carlo
  • Jordan Oesterle, Ian Mitchell
  • Michael Callahan, Drew Bavaro

The Bruins won't send many of their star defensemen on the road, instead saving the likes of Charlie McAvoy, Nikita Zadorov, and Mason Lohrei, among others, for home preseason games.

Goalies

  • Michael DiPietro
  • Brandon Bussi

Boston likely will keep Joonas Korpisalo at home and not on the road, as with Jeremy Swayman unsigned, he is the team's starter.

Boston's preseason schedule

Here is the remaining preseason schedule for the Bruins.

  • @ Rangers, Sept. 26
  • @ Philadelphia, Sept. 28
  • vs Philadelphia, Oct. 1
  • @ Los Angeles, Oct. 3
  • @ Washington, Oct. 5
