The Boston Bruins host the Philadelphia Flyers in preseason action on Tuesday. It's the third-to-last preseason game for the Bruins.
With few preseason games, the Bruins will look to keep their star players healthy but also get them into game action to shake off the rust. However, the big news for Boston is starting goalie Jeremy Swayman still not being signed, with president Cam Neely claiming that the goalie turned down a $64 million extension.
"I don't want to get into the weeds with what his ask is, but I know that I have 64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now," Neely said (via NHL.com). "I'm not a big fan of low-ball, high-ball, figure it out somewhere in the middle. It's like, OK, get the right comp, get the right comp, put the right offer on the table.
"I strongly believe that Jeremy wants to play here. I've asked him flat-out, do you want to play here, and he does. I believe that they'll get a deal done. It's unfortunate it's not done today."
With Swayman still not signed, Joonas Korpisalo will be the Bruins' starting goalie. Ahead of the preseason game on Tuesday, here's what the Bruins lineup could look like:
Predicted Bruins lineup
Forwards
- Pavel Zacha - Elias Lindholm - David Pastrnak
- Cole Koepke - Charlie Coyle - Morgan Geekie
- Max Jones - Matthew Poitras - Justin Brazeau
- John Beecher - Patrick Brown - Vinni Lettieri
Boston should play most of their starters as they look to shake off any rust ahead of its season opener. But captain Brad Marchand won't play as he works his back from offseason surgery.
Defenseman
- Nikita Zadorov - Charlie McAvoy
- Hampus Lindholm - Brandon Carlo
- Jordan Oesterle - Alex Regula
The top two pairings are set, while the third pairing is two defensemen trying to crack the roster as the Bruins' sixth or seventh defenseman.
Goalies
- Brandon Bussi
- Michael DiPietro
Korpisalo is Boston's starting goalie, and it's likely that the Bruins will keep him rested for the start of the season on Oct. 8. But he still could play one of the final two preseason games.
