The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the road to play the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It's the Leafs' penultimate preseason game, but with it being away from home, some key starters will likely rest. The encounter begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and can be watched live on BSDET and SN1, with livestreaming on ESPN+.
Here is what the lines could look like for Thursday's game:
Predicted Maple Leafs lineup
Forwards
- Matthew Knies - Bobby McMann - Pontus Holmberg
- Max Domi - Calle Jarnkrok - Nikita Grebenkin
- Nick Robertson - Cedric Pare - Easton Cowan
- Ty Voit - Alex Steeves - Ryan Reaves
Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander will all rest and should play the final preseason game at home to get ready for the start of the 2024-25 NHL season.
Defenseman
- Simon Benoit - Timothy Liljegren
- Marshall Rifai - Topi Niemela
- Mikko Kokkonen - Conor Timmins
The regular defensemen of Morgan Rielly, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jake McCabe and Chris Tanev won't play on Thursday. Instead, Toronto will take a look at the defenseman looking to earn the final roster spot.
Goalies
- Dennis Hildeby
- Matt Murray
The Maple Leafs are set at goalie with Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz forming a tandem. With that, Dennis Hildeby and Matt Murray will each likely start the final preseason game.
The team is coming off a bonding trip up north in cottage country. The Maple Leafs went golfing and got away from the city ahead of the start of the season.
"Anytime you can get the boys out for some golf and a couple of beers and maybe some poker, we're gonna play some Derby Days today, you can look that up," Ryan Reaves said, via Hockey News. "But yeah, it's just a good time, just a good way to bond and get to know the new guys and kinda get the team together after a long summer and before the real grind starts."
The Maple Leafs conclude their preseason schedule at home on Saturday against Detroit.
