The Edmonton Oilers host the Vancouver Canucks in a preseason game on Monday at 9 p.m. ET. Edmonton has three preseason games left before they start the NHL season on October 9.
Edmonton is expected to trim its roster after Monday's game against Vancouver. Heading into the Oilers' preseason game, here's what the lineup could look like.
Predicted Oilers lineup tonight
Forwards
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Connor McDavid - Zach Hyman
- Jeff Skinner - Leon Draisaitl - Viktor Arvidsson
- Mattias Janmark - Adam Henrique - Mike Hoffman
- Vasily Podkolzin - Derek Ryan - Corey Perry
Edmonton should play most of their starters on Monday, including the new-look second line. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch wants to get them playing together in a game to see how they fare.
“Now the three of them are together, sometimes there’s a little bit more forcing of plays, trying to do too much, trying to build that chemistry rather than just playing to their games and not forcing plays,” the second-year head coach said, via Edmonton Journal. “And just making the play that’s available to them. They haven’t got a game together yet, they’ve only been playing practices.”
PTO player Mike Hoffman should get another look as he looks to earn a spot on the roster.
Defenseman
- Mattias Ekholm - Evan Bouchard
- Darnell Nurse - Ty Emberson
- Travis Dermott - Josh Brown
Edmonton will play most of its starters but will give a look to PTO player Travis Dermott who is looking to make the roster.
Goalies
- Stuart Skinner
- Olivier Rodrigue
Edmonton should start Stuart Skinner which could be his final preseason game as he gets ready for the start of the season. The team, however, has backup goalie Calvin Pickard dealing with an injury, but coach Kris Knoblauch says he should be 'alright'.
“We expect him to be back on the ice in a few days,” Knoblauch said, via DailyHive. “His neck is pretty sore, obviously being cautious, but he should be alright.”
