The Edmonton Oilers are set to play a split-squad preseason game against the Calgary Flames on Monday. There is a game at home and the road, but the game at home should see Edmonton play plenty of its main roster.
The Oilers played their first season preseason game at home on Sunday and didn't play many starters. However, they picked up a 3-2 OT win over Winnipeg and coach Kris Knoblauch was impressed.
"There were a lot of guys that played really well,"nKnoblauch said, via NHL.com. "As a defense corps, all six of them played really well. But I thought [Dineen] made some nice plays in the first period and on the overtime goal, but I thought all of them were moving the puck really well."
Heading into their second preseason game, it does seem likely that Edmonton will play more starters.
Predicted Oilers lineup tonight
Forwards
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins-Connor McDavid-Zach Hyman
- Jeff Skinner-Leon Draisaitl-Viktor Arvidsson
- Raphael Lavoie-Derek Ryan-Connor Brown
- Mike Hoffman-Adam Henrique-Matt Savoie
Whether or not star players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl plays on Monday night is uncertain. After not playing on Sunday, it does seem like they could make their preseason debut Monday.
Edmonton also play some players vying for a roster spot such as Lavoie, Hoffman, and Savoie.
Defenseman
- Mattia Ekholm-Evan Bouchard
- Darnell Nurse-Troy Stetcher
- Travis Dermott-Josh Brown
Like the forward group, not many of the projected defensemen played on Sunday which is why they should get some game action on Monday night.
Mattias Ekholm, Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse should all play.
Goalies
- Stuart Skinner
- Calvin Pickard
It's likely that either Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard will start as neither dressed on Sunday. Perhaps the two will split the game evenly.
