The New York Rangers go on the road to play the New Jersey Devils on Monday at 7 p.m. ET. New York is 3-0 in preseason action while New Jersey is 0-4 and won't play many of their starters who are already in Europe for the start of the NHL season.
The Rangers likely will rest some key starters given it is a road game.
Ahead of the preseason duel, here is what New York's lineup could look like on Monday.
Predicted Rangers lineup
Forwards
- Alexis Lafreniere - Vincent Trochek - Reilly Smith
- Jimmy Vesey - Filip Chytil - Sam Carrick
- Bryce McConnell-Barker - Dylan Roobroeck - Kaapo Kakko
- Brett Berard - Ryder Korczak - Matt Rempe
New York will play plenty of players looking to compete for a roster spot or two, while some regulars will be atop the lineup. New York star forward Artemi Panarin got injured in a preseason game, but he says he's fine. Still, it's uncertain if he will play another preseason game.
“I thought maybe I should stay, but it’s preseason games, so try to be safe,” Panarin said, via Hockey News.
Defenseman
- K'Andre Miller - Jacob Trouba
- Zac Jones - Adam Fox
- Connor Mackey - Chad Ruhwedel
New York will play most of its starting defenseman except for Ryan Lindgren who's dealing with a minor injury.
“It’s always tough losing players,” head coach Peter Laviolette said, via New York Post. “A guy like Lindy is tough. He plays the game really hard for us, really valuable piece.”
Lindgren got hurt in a fight, which left Laviolette a bit disappointed.
“I don’t want to lose players,” Laviolette said when asked if he was OK with having Lindgren fight in a preseason game. “Nobody wants to lose players, it’s never OK. He’s an important piece to our team, our core, our leadership group. The way he plays the game on the ice, he’s an important part. Those pieces are hard to replace.”
Goalies
- Dylan Garand
- Louis Domingue
The Rangers tandem is set with Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick. On the road on Monday, New York won't send either goalie to New Jersey.
