The New York Rangers are set for the second half of a back-to-back preseason game against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. New York lost 3-1 to New Jersey on the road Monday and will now host the Devils.
The Rangers should play some of their key starters at home as New York only has two preseason games left.
"This group will be new," Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said, via Dan Rosen of NHL.com, of the upcoming season. "Even though there are a lot of familiar faces, and a lot of the coaches will be the same, there is change in some of these places and we have to look to build it again, look to get better from where we were last year."
Ahead of the preseason duel, here is what New York's lineup could look like on Tuesday.
Predicted Rangers lineup
Forwards
- Artemi Panarin - Vincent Trochek - Alexis Lafreniere
- Chris Kreider - Mika Zibanejad - Reilly Smith
- Will Cuylle - Filip Chytil - Kaapo Kakko
- Anton Bildh - Sam Carrick - Matt Rempe
The biggest question for the Rangers forward group is Artemi Panarin who suffered a minor injury during a preseason game even though he said he is good. He has also said he plans on playing in another preseason game before the season starts, so the game at home makes a lot of sense.
“I thought maybe I should stay, but it’s preseason games, so try to be safe,” Panarin said, via The Hockey News.
Defenseman
- Zac Jones - Chad Ruhwedel
- Brandon Scanlin - Victor Mancini
- Matthew Robertson - Casey Fitzgerald
The battle for the final roster spot or two on defense is intense so it makes sense for the Rangers to play all of them to see who stands out.
Goalies
- Dylan Garand
- Louis Dominigue
Jonathan Quick played the entire preseason game on Monday and Igor Shesterkin may not play another game next season. With that, Garand and Domingue shouldn handle the final two preseason ganes.
Rangers preseason schedule
New York's remaining preseason schedule is as follows:
