Will Ferrell delighted the crowd with his comedic self as he wore 'Buddy The Elf' costume during the Los Angeles Kings' game against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Kings won a thrilling contest that saw them come from behind to secure a 5-4 victory.
The Elf is one of Will Ferrell's famous movies. The holiday special production was released in 2003. Produced on a budget of $33 million, it made $228.9 million. It is considered one of the best Christmas-themed movies both critically and commercially.
The movie features Ferrell playing the role of Buddy, who is raised by elves at the North Pole. When he discovers his true identity, the half-human, half-elf travels to New York City in the holiday season in search of his biological father, Walter Hobbs, played by James Caan.
The comedian, who is known to be a big Kings fan and is a regular for their games at the crypto.com Arena, turned up for their matchup with the Flyers wearing the green and gold Elf suit.
But this time, instead of the happy and cheerful elf that Buddy is, he was seen to be holding a cigarette with a grumpy face. He was said to have had a 'rough holiday season.' Despite the characterization, Ferrell was showcased on the jumbotron raising a glass after Warren Foegele scored a goal.
After the game, the six-time Emmy award winner was serenaded by a one-word reaction from Kings superstar Quinton Byfield. Taking to Instagram, Byfield posted a story featuring the Elf, calling him a 'legend.'
Will Ferrell's recent comments on The Elf celebrating 20 years
Earlier this month, in an exclusive interview with People's magazine, Ferrell opened up about what 'The Elf' meant to people and how its audience has kept on increasing over the years.
“It’s really quite special,” Ferrell had said. “I mean, it continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and it continues to kind of entrench itself as kind of a holiday classic for people. I’m so lucky to have a movie like that in my catalog.”
The Kings celebrity fan would also hope that his favorite team continues to play good hockey. They currently hold a 21-10-5 record and sit just behind the Vegas Golden Knights in second spot in the Pacific Division.
