New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba voiced his frustration after the team's 5-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils on Monday night.
The defeat marked the Rangers' sixth loss in their last seven games, dropping them to a 13-10-1 record this season.
"Things haven't been going how we've wanted to lately. It's a long season, I think how fast we can get out of this and turn things around in the right direction, the better," Trouba said postgame.
"But right now, these aren't fun times to go through but like I said, these are where teams get built and you've got to find your way through adversity to get to the good stuff," he added.
Chris Kreider scored the lone goal for the Rangers in the loss.
"When you are up 5-1, I think it's probably easy to put pressure on the team...," Kreider said. "I think we're finding different ways to lose right now as opposed to finding different ways to win."
Jack Hughes (two goals), Dougie Hamilton, Jesper Bratt and Dawson Mercer scored for the Devils. Jacob Markstrom stopped 40 shots while Igor Shesterkin stopped 22 shots in the loss.
Game Recap: Rangers' 5-1 loss against Devils
The Devils opened the scoring early in the game with Jesper Bratt making it 1-0 on a 2-on-1 rush. Dawson Mercer then doubled the lead at 7:10 with a far-side shot that beat Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers.
Dougie Hamilton made it 3-0 for the Devils with a power play goal in the second period. Jack Hughes then made it to 4-0 with the rebound from his brother Luke.
Rangers HC Peter Laviolette said on the loss:
"We gotta win hockey games. We're a good hockey team. Right now, we're not playing very good hockey. We need to be better and those are things that are in our control. Those answers are in the room. Those are the answers that we need to figure out as a group."
Chris Kreider got the Rangers on the board with a power play goal to cut the deficit to 4-1, but Hughes' second goal put the game out of reach at 5-1.
Despite outshooting the Devils 41-27, the Rangers could not solve Devils goalie Markstrom in the lopsided defeat on home ice.
The Rangers face the Pittsburgh Penguins next at home on Friday.
