Rasmus Dahlin, captain of the Buffalo Sabres, got into a fight with teammate Peyton Krebs during practice. The incident occurred early in Monday's session at LECOM Harborcenter.

Dahlin hip-checked Krebs, causing him to fall on the ice. When Krebs got up, emotions were high. Both players started shoving, then dropped their gloves and began to fight. Teammates quickly stepped in to break it up. Dahlin later said he apologized to Krebs, and they were on good terms.

“Stuff happens out there, and I regret it now. …I apologized to him, so it’s all good. That’s how it is out there. We just hug it out and we’re all good,” Dahlin later said (via buffalohockeybeat. com)

This fight was not completely unexpected. Earlier in practice, Krebs accidentally high-sticked Dahlin while trying to skate toward the net.

“Got him in the face a bit,” Krebs joked.

Despite the incident, Krebs appreciated Dahlin’s competitive nature, saying:

“He’s a passionate guy, and that’s why we love him.”

Lindy Ruff discusses Rasmus Dahlin's competitive spirit and team dynamics in Sabres practice

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff commented on the fight, saying:

“Boys will be boys.”

He pointed out that Dahlin’s actions were just a way to even things out.

"I think Dahls got bumped before, he evened out the score,” the coach asaid. “I wouldn’t read too much into that."

Ruff also shared the importance of competitive practices, saying:

"We want competitive practices, so I think every now and then the emotions will run a little high. That’s a good place to be."

Krebs agreed with this view, saying:

“That’s what we’re doing, You try to practice like you play. …On off-days, we’re buddies.”

In other news, Ruff provided an update on winger JJ Peterka, who has been out since suffering a concussion on Oct. 5. He said Peterka is “50-50” for the upcoming road game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Peterka practiced again on Monday, and the Buffalo Sabres are focused on building strength and teamwork as they prepare for their upcoming challenges.

The Sabres have a record of 1-3-0, with 0-1-0 in away games. They will face the Penguins, who have a record of 1-2-0 and are 0-1-0 at home, on Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
