The Buffalo Sabres have named Rasmus Dahlin as their new captain ahead of the 2024-25 NHL season. Dahlin's partner Carolina Matovac was overjoyed with the news and expressed her excitement on her Instagram story with a heartfelt message.
She shared the Buffalo Sabres’ official Instagram post announcing Dahlin as the captain and wrote:
“Im so beyond proud of you and everything you have accomplished so far! Can't wait for this season to start!💙💛”
She also shared the tribute video that the team's official Instagram handle posted for Rasmus Dahlin.
“I love you so much! 💙”, Carolina wrote in the caption.
After trading Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers, the Sabres were due to elect a new captain before the season began. Even fans wanted to see Rasmus Dahlin take up the role and now the decision has been finalized.
The Sabres have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 NFL season. This year, they would look to turn things around under the leadership of Dahlin.
Rasmus Dahlin and Carolina Matovac are beloved figures in Buffalo
While Rasmus Dahlin has earned the fans’ approval over the years with his performances on the ice, his partner Carolina Matovac has also been active with the community.
She has found her own purpose in Buffalo by helping children at GiGi’s Playhouse, a center for kids with Down Syndrome. Originally from Sweden, Carolina wanted to make a difference in her new community.
"I was thinking what purpose can I have in Buffalo. And I realized that I loved to help people," Carolina told 7 News. "And I wanted to help people because I have that opportunity."
The couple are known patrons of the organization and Carolina is an active volunteer who spends a lot of time in company of the children.
“I think many people who don't know about the people here I think just expect to feel sorry for them. And you have nothing to feel sorry about. Because they are the happiest, most loving kids ever," she said.
Matovac mentioned that she is generally known as Rasmus Dahlin’s partner and she is proud to be so. But she also wanted to build an identity of her own and follow her heart into doing something she truly cares for. It was then that she found GiGi's Playhouse as a way of giving back to the community.
