Since signing a $66 million contract extension on Oct. 6 with the Boston Bruins, Jeremy Swayman has struggled in eight games this season. His metrics of a .884 save percentage and a .357 goals-against average are not that of a top goalie worth $8.25 million a year.

The Bruins are off to a bad start at 4-6-1. However, in Swayman's starts, the team is 3-3-1. While Swayman hasn't played well, his team has struggled with and without him. Their record with him is slightly better than without despite the poor numbers.

Still, after his substantial contract, the goalie's performance has come into sharp focus. Some NHL fans aren't impressed and believe the Bruins may have made a mistake.

"I give it 68 million booooooooos," one bluntly tweeted on X, formerly Twitter.
"Not worth the money he held out for so far," another tweeted.

Others pointed out that the team in front of Swayman isn't good right now and struggles to defend anything. Swayman is the last line of defense, but these fans believe he's being left out to dry.

"Not Sways fault the entire team in front of him no showed the month of October," one tweeted.
"Well the Bruins don’t have a center, so they’re pretty much in defensive mode from puck drop," another pointed out in their tweet.

Swayman's struggles came to a head in a shocking 8–2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he had a .727 SV% and allowed six goals. Joonas Korpisalo spent about a minute more time on the ice and allowed just two goals.

Neither Carolina nor Boston had been off to exceptional starts, but their matchup on Oct. 31 showed only one team was turning the corner. The Hurricanes blitzed the Bruins and won easily.

They scored six goals against top goalie Jeremy Swayman before he was mercifully pulled from the game. The Canes recorded six goals on 22 shots against Swayman.

Before Thursday night’s outing, Swayman was 3-3-1 with a 2.97 GAA and a .900 SV%. Those numbers have dropped significantly after the loss to the Hurricanes.
