Nick Robertson's future with the Toronto Maple Leafs is unclear. On Tuesday, Chris Johnston from The Athletic shared on TSN 1050 that Robertson reportedly isn't keen on re-signing with Toronto and wants to move to another team.
Johnston mentioned if Robertson stays, he might find a good spot on the Leafs' left wing, with a chance for a bigger role.
“At this stage Nick Robertson doesn’t seem inclined to sign in Toronto and is sticking to the idea that he’d like to play somewhere else,” Johnston said.
Johnston also said the situation might change as training camp nears. Robertson will have to decide whether to stick with his trade request or stay if no good trade options come forward. In June, Robertson, a restricted free agent, made it clear he wanted a trade.
Leafs fans reacted strongly on X after reports said Nick Robertson wants to leave Toronto.
"Robby is being a moron plain & simple, I understand being angry at the way Keefe used you but now there is a new coach & a 2nd line LW spot for the taking," a fan said.
"He can rot and sit all year and be hated every time toronto plays him and he visits toronto if that's what he wants to choose lmfao Or sign, get a good opportunity and new coach, do well on a great team, and sign for more next year/increase trade value enough that we could move," another fan commented.
"So it’s the leafs fault kid was a bandaid for years?," one X user asked.

"Let’s move on from this kid. Time to move and rebuild his career!!!!," tweeted another.
"Use to love this kid, now I hope they just teach him a lesson, bro you aren't even the best Robertson...," a fan said.
Brad Treliving earlier said Maple Leafs needed Nick Robertson
On July 1, general manager Brad Treliving said the Maple Leafs need Nick Robertson. He mentioned Robertson's potential and opportunities this season.
Treliving pointed out that the team has less depth at left wing compared to previous years. There was no clear solution at that time.
"I don't know how it will be resolved but as we're getting really close to the start of September here, there doesn't seem to be a resolution in sight and one thing is the Leafs have a need for Nick Robertson," Treliving said (via TSN).
Robertson has struggled with injuries during his stint in Toronto. He has played 87 games for the Leafs, with 17 goals and 34 points.
