Ryan O'Reilly scores a hat-trick in his third game for the Leafs and NHL Twitter loves it

Toronto Maple Leafs v Buffalo Sabres
Ryan O'Reilly celebrates with his teammate after scoring a goal.

Ryan O'Reilly, after making the switch from St. Louis Blues to Toronto Maple Leafs, played his third game on Tuesday (February 21). Having arrived with a lot of promise, fans were waiting for him to show his brilliance.

With O'Reilly storming past the Sabres' defense to score three goals, NHL Twitter went into meltdown.

Here are the reactions:

With 4 points in tonight’s win, Ryan O’Reilly is now sitting at 696 career points. He is just 4 points away from 700 career points as well as just 19 games away from 1000 career games."
Ryan O’Reilly already has 5 points as a Leaf. He needs 15 points in the Leafs final 24 games to have more points as a Leaf than a Blue this season. I say he does it.
Ryan O'Reilly will live rent-free in that guy's mind forever. What a stud. #LeafsForever

Toronto Maple Leafs look complete after Ryan O'Reilly's arrival

The Toronto Maple Leafs have done well to be placed second in the Atlantic Division with 78 points.

With the arrival of the experienced Ryan O'Reilly from the Blues, the Leafs look better and ready for new challenges. The 2019 Stanley Cup 2019 winner has had an average season with the Blues, bagging eight goals and as many assists in 39 games. However, he looks to have adapted quickly at his new surroundings, as the new Leafs player made a career-best five-point outing in the last game.

He gelled well with captain John Tavares, who added three assists in addition to Mitchell Marner's five assists.

“Yeah, its been crazy, though I think a lot of adrenaline” said O’Reilly.“It’s just still a little surreal putting on this sweater and being here with this team. I’ve still got to pinch myself at times. But it’s very exciting. I still haven’t had a full practice with the team yet, which is kind of weird. So kind of nice to get a feel for that.”

The Leafs will play their next game on Feb. 25 against the Minnesota Wild, where they will look to boost their title credentials. Ryan O’Reilly will have a key role to play as he helps his new team produce a strong end to the season.
