The San Jose Sharks beat the Seattle Kraken 4-0 on Monday (Feb. 20) night. The Sharks were without their star forward Timo Meier, but goals from Logan Couture, Evgeny Svechnikov, Mikey Eyssimont and Noah Gregor saw them emerge victorious.
The Sharks will now take on the Nashville Predators on Feb. 24 but will miss some players. Here's a list of the injured players in the Sharks' lineup and their expected date of return:
#1 Timo Meier is Day-to-Day
Timo Meier was reported to have an upper body injury on February 19, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. His status is now set to day-to-day, but the winger did not play in the San Jose Sharks' game against the Seattle Kraken on Monday.
Meier is one of the biggest prospects left in the trade market. He's rumored to be connected with the likes of New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. He's having an amazing season with 52 points from 31 goals and 21 assists in 57 games.
He's expected to return against the Nashville Predators on Feb. 24. The Sharks, though, might not risk aggravating his injury and add him to the list of players in the NHL who are benched due to trade-related reasons.
#2 Tomas Hertl is Day-to-Day
Tomas Hertl did not play against the Kraken due to personal reasons, per Corey Masisak of The Atheletic.
The 29-year-old has 15 goals and 32 assists, amassing 47 points in 55 games for the San Jose Sharks this season. Hertl is expected to return to the lineup against the Predators on Feb. 24.
#3 Jonah Gadjovich is OUT
Jonah Gadjovich was injured in the second period of the game against the Washington Capitals on Sunday (February 19). His initial status was week-to-week, per Curtis Pasheika of the San Jose Mercury News, but he has missed four games since then.
Gadjovich has seven points this season from three goals and four assists. The injured winger was replaced by Kevin Labanc.
Gadjovich is expected to be out till at least Feb. 23, when we might return or the extent of his injury and his timeline for return gets revealed.
Are San Jose Sharks asking too much for Timo Meier?
According to San Jose Hockey Now, the Sharks' request for Meier includes a first-rounder, one Grade-A or two Grade-B prospects, or a good prospect and a young, established NHL player. Only a handful of teams in the NHL currently have what the Sharks are asking for.
Timo Meier signed a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks worth $24 million with a $6 million salary cap hit.
He will become a restricted free agent valued at $10 million at the end of the 2022-23 NHL season. The Sharks have not been able to reach an agreement with Meier on the extension, which guarantees a trade before the deadline. It remains to be seen who wins the fight for the 26-year-old forward.
