Ottawa Senators forward Claude Giroux had his Land Rover stolen on Tuesday night. His wife, Ryanne Giroux, shared the news on social media early Wednesday morning. She said she couldn’t reach the Ottawa Police until 10 a.m. and sought advice from others who have dealt with similar situations.

"Good morning Ottawa! @28CGiroux ’s car was stolen last night and is currently actively driving… unable to get ahold of @OttawaPolice until 10am… looking for other suggestions/to hear from other people in Ontario who have sadly had to deal with this recently," Ryanne Giroux tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).

Ryanne Giroux also posted on Instagram that she had contacted Land Rover. However, they couldn’t move forward without a case number from the police. Ottawa Police responded to her X post 37 minutes later:

“We’re sorry to hear this. With any crime in progress, call 911 at the time of the incident. We understand an officer has been dispatched.”

Later, Ryanne Giroux thanked her followers for their support but was not hopeful about getting back the car:

"Thank you for all your help! Not banking on ever seeing that car again but stay tuned. Police have been notified."

Claude Giroux reacted to the situation with a face-palming emoji, expressing his frustration. This incident adds to growing concerns over car thefts in Ottawa and Ontario.

Leafs forward Mitch Marner faced a similar car theft

Previously, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner had found himself in a similar but much more critical situation. In May 2022, he became a victim of a carjacking incident at a parking lot near The Queensway theatre. Two armed suspects demanded keys from Marner and drove off with his car.

The police arrested two suspects in March 2023 about the incident. But they were granted bail the same month and later the crown dropped their charges in October 2023.

Claude Giroux is a native of Ontario with ties to Ottawa

Claude Giroux is from Hearst, Ontario, and has ties to Ottawa. He played Junior ‘A’ hockey for the Cumberland Grads and Major Junior for the Gatineau Olympiques from 2004 to 2008. Giroux has been reliable, playing all 82 games in both seasons with the Senators.

In the 2023-24 season, he scored 21 goals and had 43 assists. His experience and connection to the area make him an important player for the team. Giroux will be play his third season with the Ottawa Senators in the upcoming season. He had signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract in 2022.
